As members of the United Grand Lodge of England, to celebrate the unique occasion – the creation, 300 years ago, of the first Grand Lodge in the world – the Freemasons of the District Grand Lodge of South Africa, Western Division has selected as one of its Tercentenary Community Projects to support the the Maitland Cottage Children’s Orthopaedic Hospital which is one of two Paediatric Orthopaedic Hospitals in the Southern Hemisphere specialising in the medical and surgical treatment of children with physical disability due to disease or accident.

The Hospital is much dependent on voluntary donations and support in caring for these children and when we became aware of an urgent redecoration requirement to one of their large children’s wards, following storm damage we felt that this would be a worthy community project and volunteered accordingly to redecorate the ward.

Redecorating the 40-metre ward was a challenge for the few stalwarts who took to the paint brushes during the annual holiday period. Support from Midas Paints and W Voigt Painters who also assisted was much appreciated.
